Edmonton Daily Jan 7, 1907 COREY, C.W. Rev. REV C.W. COREY RESIGNS At the close of the evening services in the Baptist church last night the pastor Rev. C.W. Corey unexpectedly tendered his resignation in the following letter, which he read. Stratchona, Alberta, Jan 6, 1907 To the First Baptist Church. Dear Brethren and Sisters Upon my return last July from my work for the H.M. Board in the east the board approached me with reference to my becoming their permanent reprehensive in the east. I ? them of my favorable conad?ration of their proposal. They expected the work to begin as early as possible in the new year. Dreading publicity of this matter not to be in the best interest of my work with this church. I have withheld it from your to the latest possible date. The board desirous that I should take that work up ? and hard formally called me to the same. I therefore her in present to you my resignation of the pastorate of this church to take affect after the first Sunday in February for the purpose of taking up the work above mentioned. Trusting, that pastor and church and board may be alike guided by Divine wisdom in this mater. C.W. Corey, Pastor Mr. Corey's resignation came as a total surprise to the entire congregation. He was called to the pastorate here in 1903 and since then had labored faithfully, the bander? new church being a landmark on his ministry in Stratcona. His now labors as eastern representative of the Baptist Hmes Mission Board of Alberta. Saskatchewan and Manitoba will consist principally in presenting the claims of the west in the Maritime Provinces where he labored with much success for five months last spring. Mrs. Coney and family will remain in the west for some time at least. A congressional meeting will be held Wednesday night to consider the resignation.
