1019 EDMONTON DAILY OCT 30, 1907 BUGG, R. ARMSTRONG, Mrs. CAMERON, Alexander Mrs. SYLVAN, Benito Commandant D.C.O. R. Bugg, teamster at the fire hall, wrote asking for an increase of his salary to 460 per month. The letter was referred to the fire and light committee. Mrs. Armstrong, who lives near the Duggan street school, while working in the house several days ago, fell off a chair on which she was standing with the result that she inflicted a severe cut on her hop. She has since been confined to bed. Alexander Cameron of Stratcona, received a message several days ago announcing the death of his wife at the home of her father in Minnedoan, Man. Deceased had been suffering from consumption for some time. She leaves two children. Montreal, Oct 29, Commandant Benito Sylvan, a doctor of law of the faculty of Paris, and a D.C.O. of His Majesty Emperor Menelik of Abysinia, was refused admittance at the Montreal hotel today because he was colored. He said "It is absolutely odious and scandalous that in a country imbrued with generous traditions of France and which claims to be under English law, reported to be so liberal, that the people can adopt principles as retrograde as those which are still prevalent among the upholders of slavery in the southern states."
