861 EDMONTON DAILY OCT 12, 1907 TAFT, J.B. JELLETT, Morgan GAREY, Chas. (Charles) K. CHUNG, Mah Lui J.B. Taft, the well known land guide and stage man, left this morning with another big load of settlers for the Peavine district. Morgan Jellett, representing the A.E. Jarvis Co., of Toronto, is in the city on his way though the west looking into the resources and financial standing of the country. Chas. K. Garey, of San Francisco is in the city on business. He represents a Troy (N.Y.) firm, and travels from coast to coast on both sides of the boarder. Mr. Garey is more than please with Edmonton's prospects and says it is the most progressive city he know of. Mah Lue Chung, the chinaman who was reported to have attempted suicide at Morinville, was brought in to the public hospital last night for treatment. Mah's version is that he did not attempt to commit suicide, but that he received his wounds from two young men, who attempted to murder him and robbed him of fifty dollars. According to his story he was in the kitchen of the hotel, where he was employed, when two young men entered and seized him. One cut his throat with a carving knife, while the other rifled his pockets. The wound, though a severe one is not likely to prove fatal, and Mah'to recover. The police have the case in hand. Mah Lin has been in the country about three and one half months coming here from Field B.C. where he owns a store and several houses.
