Took out permits for small buildings in connection with their premises, totalling $800. Before Magistrate Wilson to-night a China man named Mah Jo will appear on a charge of receiving stolen goods. It is alleged that Mah Jo purchased goods that the two young lads Liscom and Matthews had stolen from the premises of A. Candy. The Young Mens's club of Grace Methodist church spent an enjoyable time last evening in the lecture room of the church, the subject being an Evening with Tennyson" Mr. John Torrence, president, presided and Rev. A.S. Tuttle, M.A. gave a short address, which was followed by a selection from Mr. A. Pascoe. Next Tuesday the evening will be of a social character, meetings being held every Tuesday. At the Supreme Court this morning a Chinaman named Jos. Wing, of Stony Plain, appeared on a charge of stealing a cash box containing $167.75 from the Royal hotel, owned by Mr. Laurencelle, at Spruce Grove. The cash box was placed in a closet underneath the staircase after being received by the manager, Henry Gobeille, from the bartender, Peter Tanner. The next morning the cash boy was missing. Suspicion fell on wing who was a cook at the hotel and when he was searched some bills were found on his possession, which he could not account for. The case will likely take up all day today. E.B. Cogswell, K.C. is prosecuting and H.H. Robertson is defending the prisoner. The next case will be that of John Donnelly, of Belvedere who comes up on Friday on a charge of killing a neighbor's cow.
