1256 EDMONTON DAILY NOV 27, 1907 OLIVER, Thomas TETREAN, B. CADZOW, T. GOGHLAN, Mr. CHASE, E. Dr. PROCTOR, Mamie McALPINE, - Fireman Vegreville The man Thomas Oliver from Medicine Hat, not from Vegreville as reported, came up for hearing before Magistrate Felming. The case was adjourned for a week for Oliver to get a chance to get a counsel to defend him. Mr. Oliver is out on bail. Of $1,000 in two sureties. B. Terean and T. Cadzow $500 each. It seems Mr. Oliver was buying cattle for Griffin & Co., and while here he got a wire from a man by the name of Coghlan, another cattle commission man. Winnipeg, to secure 100 head of fat cattle for him. Mr. Oliver did so, using Griffin & Checques for payment. When the cattle reached Winnipeg, Mr. Coghlan refused to take them. The cattle were left on Oliver's hands. There was a lump in the cattle market, and Oliver had difficulty in disposing of the cattle. He sold them the best he could and applied the proceeds in paying the cheques. He was about $800 short. Hence the arrest. Dr. E. Chase? Who has been living on C.O. Simon's place, Pozerville was brought down by Constable Smith of the R.N.W.M.P. and taken down to Sedgewick. It is alleged Chase picked up a horse near Manvville and has been using it. He claims he advertised it in the local paper, and was ignorant of the law. Chase came here from near grand Forks, N.D. He is a married man with a wife and three children. Winnipeg, Nov 27 Mamie Proctor a woman of the underworld committed suicide by drinking carbolic acid at 41 Alberta street about 7 o'clock last night. Vancouver Nov 27, In testing a 65 foot aerial ladder by the fire department the ladder broke about twenty feet from the ground. As the ladder fell it went across a wire carrying twenty thousand volts. Fireman McAlpine jumped clear, falling thirty feet without injury.
