STANTON, J. POUNDER, Peter Twenty Four Years Ago A.D. Osborne leaves Winnipeg for Edmonton on the 14th inst. D.S. McKay has moved from town to his farm on Livingstone's creek. T. Smith threshed 10,000 bushels of grain this fall. Wheat and barley in equal proportions. M. Deans, D.L.S., is surveying the claims on the south side of the river at Fort Saskatchewan. D. Ross is opening up a coal drift on the north side of the river at the foot of the grade to the Edmonton hotel. B. McGILLIS, left Wednesday with Ad. McPherson's cart for Calgary, fording the river at Borwick's. C. Chable, who was severely injured in the fact two weeks ago, is improving. He is still at the St. Albert hospital. A buckboard in charge of B. McGILLIS and others, came to grief between the Edmonton hotel and the Fort. A well is being dug on Chief Factor Hardisty's lots on the H.B.Co. reserve. C. Sanderson is the contractor and he is bound to reach water or China. Believe this is the end of the 24 years ago article J. Colman commenced on Thursday to take the census of the four townships belonging to the Edmonton and Saskatchewan Land company, lying between Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan, not including the part within the river survey. The census is being taken on behalf of the land company. Statistics of the Edmonton district are being taken on behalf of the general government by Mr. J. Murphy, Information in regard to the amount of improvements, crop, stock, acreage, yield of grain, condition of the cattle etc. together with a general retrospect of the year is desired, rather than such as relates to the inhabitants. J. Stanton, who has been employed for the past year at Lac La Biche, erecting a grist mill for Peter Pounder, arrived from that place Saturday last. The mill building is erected and the dam finished. It now remains for the machinery to be put in. It is, hardly likely the mill will be running this season.
