1357 EDMONTON DAILY JUNE 8, 1907 August Noel, who died in Edmonton two weeks ago, was buried at Arthabascaville, P.Q., on May 29. The funeral service was one of the most imposing ceremonies ever witnessed in the eastern townships in the province of Quebec, Representative business men and professional men from various parts of the province attended the service as a tribute to the high standing of the deceased in the profession. M.P. TALBOT, J. Business houses in the city of Arthabascaville were practically closed during the service. Mr. Noel's former teacher, MALTAIS, Abbe Said the last prayer of the church over the dead. It was in Artrabascaville, his natal county, that Noel first practiced his profession, in partnership with Louis Lavergne, now M.P. for Athabasca in the little office in which Sir. Wilfrid Laurier, close onto forty years ago, first fought his great fights in law and politics. The Edmonton public knew him merely as a member of the law firm of Noel, Noel & Cormack. His friends knew him as a student, a deep thinker and writer, They prophesied for him success in his profession and in politics. Noel was thirty-five when he died, He was born at Tingwick, in Athabasca county. He studied at Sherbrooke college and at Laval university, and was admitted to the bar at twenty-four. His father, Elisee Noel, was a boyhood friend of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Auguste Noel loved the legal profession and like most French-Canadians of university training, loved politics. By principal he was Liberal. He was a follower of Sir wilfrid Laurier and a supporter of the Liberal Party. More to article please see original.
