245 EDMONTON DAILY JULY 29, 1907 BELFRAGE, W.J. The case of William J. Belfrange, charged with the misappropriation and consequent theft of certain moneys from Horse Hills and Coronation farmers was set down to come on at the Supreme court this morning before Mr. Justice Scott. The arranged hearing, however was been cut short by the reported death of the acqused, which according to a letter received in the city several days ago took place last week near Vancouver, B.C. It is stated that Mr. Belfrange after committed for trial and subsequently released on bail went to the Coast several weeks ago to visit his wife who is in ill health at Vancovuer. The position in which he found himself as the result of the grave charge preyed upon his mind to such an extent that he became insane and was placed in an Asylum situated on the line between Vancouver, and New Westminister. He did not improve, however, but grew gradually worse and eventually succumbed. The Crown are desirous to being fully convinced of the authenticity of his demise and to that end will apply to Judge Scott this afternoon for a bench warrant.
