467 EDMONTON DAILY AUG 24, 1907 CHIPMAN, C.C. Winnipeg, Aug 21, 1907 Mrs. C.C. Chipman met with a serious accident on Saturday at her summer home at Lower Fort Garry. She was reclining in a hammock, which was supported by two poles when the pole at the head snapped, letting her down with great suddenness, allowing her head to strike the remaining piece of pole left in the ground. She sustained a deep cut in the back of her head. A surgeon was called and several stitches were necessary. The idea weather, the excellent facilities of transportation and the thorough preparation made by those in charge, combined to make the outing of the first Presbyterian Church Sunday school an ideal one. The eight coaches provided by the C.N.R. Co., were comfortably filled and the good things that were seen to pass into the provision car gave that inward assurance of resources without which no picnic could be successfully conducted. Much of the success of the outing was due to the fact that many of the children were accompanied by their parents who stimulated their interest and helped to direct the amusement. Great credit is due those in charge at the Fort for the elaborate and commodious preparation afforded by them and to the N.W.M.P. for the use of their grounds upon which they had made many changes in the advantage of the picnickers. Through the kindness of the Telephone Company several telephone posts were obtained for swings which afforded the greatest of pleasure through the entire day. (More description) In this curtailed report is that the high jump won by Roy McDiarmid who delighted the onlookers by his remarkable exhibition of jumping for a boy of less then 15 years, and the biscuit race in which almost all the children took part.
