51 Guides From Alberta To Attend National Camp

 

Selection of Guides and Rangers to attend the national summer camp of the Canadian Girl Guides Association at Ottawa July 14-25 has been completed, and announcement is made that the Alberta-Northwest Territory contingent will be accompanied east by Miss Beth Riddock and Miss Betty Martin, provincial secretaries.

This will be the first national summer camp Canada has ever held, and only 1,000 of the 78,000 Guides in Canada can be accommodated. Preparations include a plan to place Guides from widely separated sections of Canada together as tent-mates, and to teach them songs and customs typical of each of the provinces.

ALLOCATIONS to the camp have been made on the basis of the provincial Guide population. Alberta-Northwest Territories will send 54 representative Rangers and Guides. Later eight Guiders will be chosen to go with them.

Those chosen to represent Alberta-Northwest Territories are:

RANGERS-- Daphne Garrison, Westlock; Shirley Rossander, Ponoka; Joan Turner, Vegreville; Joan Clark, Calgary; Beatrice McCarthy, Calgary; Gwendolyn Sanford, Edmonton.

GUIDES-- Francis Smith, Elizabeth Woodworth, Pat Russell, Merle Robinson, Elfreda Parrott, Shirley Dickhoff, Sharon McCool, Marie Jackson, Pat Foley, Theresa Steadman and Elaine Aldrich of Calgary, Andrea Mikkelsen, Bowness.

Madeline Benke, Doris Nugent, Donna McCalla, Jennifer Simmonds, Pat Arnold, Ann Mancantelli, Joyce Aylen, Karen Williams, Lois Blackwell, Murdine Finlayson, Judith McNamara, Mary Beth O'Neil and Sharon Baldwin of Edmonton.
