Calgary Woman Heads Rockies Trail Hikers
BANFF-- Mrs. Irene Lamar of Calgary was appointed president
of the Skyline Trail Hikers of the Canadian
Rockies at the association's 20th annual meeting, which concluded one of the
most successful camps in its history.
Mrs. Lamar, who has been a member of the council and an
active hiker for several seasons, succeeds Dr. A. Somerville of Edmonton, who
this year headed the band of some 50 members over the timberline trails in the
vicinity of Healy Creek, south of Banff.
THE FIVE-DAY camp, which was
favored with ideal weather from the time the hikers left Banff by bus for their
trailhead on Aug. 2 until their return late today, was attended by members from
many parts of Canada and the United States. A few members of the Alpine Club
joined the hikers ranks, after leaving their camp at Mount Assiniboine.
F. H. W. Chanter of Nelson, B.C., and Miss Jean Galbraith
of Lethbridge, were elected vice-presidents, while Miss M. P. Hendrie, Calgary, Miss Anne
Fallis, Lethbridge, and Sir Oliver Wheeler of Vernon, B.C., were all re-elected
to the vice-presidential post.
ADDED TO the executive committee were Miss Evelyn Boyd, Shelburne, Ont.,
Mrs. L. C. Wolfenden, Toronto, and Miss Lillian Gest, Merion, Pa. New council
members elected were Miss Kay Watson, Calgary; Miss Mary Lore, Calgary; Miss
Jerry Siegfried, Wichita, Kansas; Ian C. Somerville, Willow Grove, Pa.; Dr. G.
M. Everett, Chicago, Ill.; Peter Vallance, Calgary and Mrs. W. M. Pecover, nee
Shirley Rourke of Calgary.
