Annual Meet Notes Expansion
Youth Hostel Members Elect New Executive

The Calgary branch of the
Canadian Youth Hostel association elected a new executive at their annual meeting and banquet held Saturday.
Elected for a period of two years were Cathy Lynch, correspondence secretary; Thelma Crozier,
treasurer and recording secretary; Tom Moffat, maintenance of foothills hostels, and Eldon Harris, editor of The Trailblazer: monthly C.Y.H. publication. Betty Brooker, Rita Brennan and Pat Simpson were elected to form a committee responsible for social activities, trips and publicity.
Jim Cunningham, president of the Calgary C.Y.H., begins the second year of his two year terms, as does Donna Spear, who is responsible for maintenance of hostels in Banff and Jasper Parks.
Reviewing a very successful 1953, Mr.
Cunningham reported an over-all increase in the number of hikers and cyclists using Alberta hostels. In the 11 hostels along the Banff-Jasper chain, the total over-night visits during  July and August jumped from 1,367 in 1952 to 2,175 this year.
THE PRESIDENT also discussed plans for the new hostel, supplied by the Dominion government, at Kicking Horse, in Yo Ho park near Lake Louise, which will be ready to open in the spring.
The tremendous responsibility of Alberta hostel maintenance carried by the Calgary branch of the organization was stressed by
Mr. Cunningham, who commended Don Loudon for his supervisory work this summer, and other members for the maintenance work they have undertaken.
An acute shortage of blankets is plaguing C.Y.H. members, who supply all 17 of Alberta's hostels with bedding. A blanket and wool-collecting drive will be launched this week, and a request will be sent out for
all people with old blankets or wool to contact the hostel office at 102- 10th St. N.W.
Aside from varied programs planned for
Thursday night meetings at the hostel office, the C.Y.H. has mapped a ski hike schedule for the coming months which includes a ski weekend at Lake Louise on No. 28, skiing at Pine Creek and skating at Ghost Lake in December, a Lake Louise Christmas party, and New York get-togethers at Wildwood hostel and "Ike Inn", the Mt. Eisenhower hostel.
