Group Names New Officers 

G. R. Hopping, head of the Forest Insects Laboratory, was elected chairman of the Calgary branch of the 
Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada at the annual meeting held recently. He succeeds W. Roy Roberts who has held the post for the past two years.
Allan F. McQuarrie was elected vice-chairman, and W. C. T. Ross secretary-treasurer. Directors for the coming year are U. P. Green, E. C. Boag and M. McCulloch.
ANNOUNCEMENT was made of the1954 competition for the 
Institutes' Gold Medal which is awarded annually for distinguished service in fields such as science, technical advance and public administration.
The 1954 Gold Medal is being offered "for a contribution of outstanding importance to national or world well-being made in a field of endeavor outside pure and applied science". MEMBERSHIP in the professional institute i
s not a requisite for qualification and equally eligible are professional men from the public service of Canada and from the provinces.
Following the business section of the meeting the members and their wives were treated to musical selections by Mrs. W. G. Carter and Mrs. Allan McQuarrie. Susan Lenox, who spent several years in Ethiopia, presented pictures of that country togethe
r with her most unusual pictures of the Holy Land.
