Bow Island Woman Heads Diocesan Council Of C.W.L. 

Mrs. F. A. Politoski of Bow Island, was elected president of the Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada at the annual meeting at Medicine Hat recently.
Other officers elected were: first vice-president, Mrs. E. B. Hagel, Beiseker; second vice-president, Mrs. W. B. Bowlen, Carstairs; third vice-president, Mrs. J. F. M. Smith, Drumheller; recording secretary, Miss Ann Kirby, Lethbridge; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Anton Gross, Grassy Lake; treasurer, Mrs. Wallace Macdonald, Taber; past-president, Mrs. A. N. Macdonald, Calgary.
Conveners of standing committees are: Mrs. Alex McDonald, Calgary, education and study clubs; Mrs. Bert Bannister, Crossfield, social action; Mrs. T. A. Botter, Medicine Hat, child welfare; Mrs. B. M. Hubka, Claresholm, health and nutrition; Mrs. C. Wentz, Grassy Lake, "Western Catholic"; Mrs. R. F. Walshe, Nanton, immigration; Mrs. J. F. M. Smith, Drumheller, Providence Creche; Mrs. L. P. Kirley, Calgary, press and publicity; Mrs. Ray Whittick, Lethbridge, League magazine; Mrs. Mitchell Thielen, Alerston, citizenship; Mrs. W. B. Bowlen, Carstairs, lay retreats; Alderman Mrs. Hermon Stevens, organization; Miss Marion Flock, Empress, business and professional; Mrs. A. J. Head, Retlaw, resolutions.
The convention opened with welcoming addresses by diocesan director, Monsignor J. P. Smith, St. Mary's Cathedral; chairman, Mrs. E. E. Landry, Drumheller; Mayor H. Viner of Medicine Hat.
Speakers at the banquet held in the Assiniboine hotel, were Most Rev. F. P. Carroll, D.D., Bishop of Calgary and Mrs. Fred Drake of Regina, president of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. Mrs. Drake discussed the work of the national league, particularly in the field of citizenship and immigration, also her trip through Canada, visiting and organizing C.W.L. units and on the brief presented to the Senate committee y the C.W.L. on salacious literature and urged members to aid in the drive to curb the sale of these books and papers. The Robert Bullen Melody Maids entertained with several selections, under the direction of Eileen McCrae of Medicine Hat.
General convener was Mrs. N. A. Botter of Medicine Hat.
