P. N. Blunt Heads Alberta Chapter Of Black Knights

50 Members Attend 35th Annual Convention


P. N. Blunt, Calgary, was elected Grand Master of the Grand Black Chapter of Alberta, Royal Black Knights of Ireland, at the 35th annual session of the lodge Tuesday in the I.O.O.F. Temple.
The convention was attended by about 50 members from all part of the province.
The election and installation of officers was conducted by Past Grand Master W. G. Walford and Alexander D. Trussler, both of Edmonton.
JOHN MYLER, Edmonton, was elected Deputy Grand Master, and R. E. Jones, Red Deer, became Associate Grand Master.
Other officers elected were: Grand Chaplain, A. S. Shaw, Red Deer; Grand Registrar, R. L. Burk, Red Deer; Grand Treasurer, F. Plowman, Red Deer; Grand Lecturer, A. H. Sanders, Edmonton; Deputy Grand Lecturer, Robert MacFadzean, Mannville; Grand Censors, M. Smith, Manville, and Alex Dewar, Leduc;Grand Standard Bearers, P. W. Shurko, Edmonton, and W. J. Grasby, Red Deer; Grand Marshall, Robert Jacklin, Calgary; Grand Pursuivant, J. J. Wadsworth, Edmonton; and Tyler, R. W. Green, Edmonton.
THE GRAND committee is: A. G. Erickson, Minburn; R. J. Willis, Edmonton; R. C. Tuff, Calgary; E. C. Torrance, Calgary; E. L. Barton, Drumheller; J. G. Coupland, Calgary; and William Donaldson, Calgary.
Auditors are: William Donaldson and J. G. Coupland, Calgary.
An honorary life membership was conferred on R. J. Edgar, Calgary, at the meeting.
H. S. WINTERS, Prince Albert, Sask., was present to extend greetings to the session from the Grand Black Chapter of Saskatchewan of which he is Past Grand Master.
A resolution protesting the action of the federal government in ceasing to celebrate May 24 as Empire Day was passed and other resolutions re-affirmed the allegiance of the chapter to Queen Elizabeth and the crown of Great Britain, and commended Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent for "making it clear" that the national anthem of Canada was "God Save The Queen." 
A resolution was passed opposing any relaxation in enforcement of the Lord's Day Act.
