Plaque At Hospital Honors Contributors

A lasting tribute was paid at a plaque unveiling ceremony Wednesday night to 15 persons who have donated time and talent throughout the years in the care of youngsters at the Calgary Red Cross Hosptal.

In unveiling a plaque to commemorate these people at the Alberta Red Cross Crippled Children's hospital, M. G. Graves, chairman of the provincial board of management, commented on the contributions made by these people in the building of the new hospital, opened in March 1952.

THE PLAQUE is now embedded on the right hand corner of the main floor entrance and carries the list of the honored workers.

The first Red Cross Crippled Children's hospital in Calgary was located at 522 18th Ave. W., said Mr. Graves, and housed only 38 beds. The second was at 1009 20th Ave. S.W. and contained only 50 beds, although more were placed in halls.

A great step forward was made by many, he pointed out, in the opening of the present hospital which holds 152 beds.

"NOT ONLY IS the hospital a place of healing," he said, "but it is a monument to all the fine people who contributed and to those who worked for its establishment."

Ernest McLean, president of the Alberta division of the Canadian Red Cross and who has been with the organization for 30 years, unveiled the memorial plaque.

Archdeacon E. H. Maddocks said a prayer of dedication for help given by contributors, workers and staff.

Dr. R. B. Deane, 15 years; Dr. R. O'Callaghan, 10 years; Dr. M. G. Cody, 25 years; Dr. F. T. Campbell, 9 years; Dr. A. E. Shore, 26 years; Dr. W. S. Quint, 19 years; Dr. Lola McLatchie, 23 years; Dr. J. W. Auld, 15 years; Dr. R. G. Townsend, 16 years; Dr. E. R. Selby, 13 years; Dr. Baden Powell, 16 years; Dr. D. R. Dunlop, 4 years; Miss F. E. C. Reid, R.N., 22 years; Mrs. G. Welch, R.N., 3 years; Miss M. Spreckley, 21 years.
