Lodge Leader Takes Office

OKOTOKS Mrs. Annie Varty was installed this week as the
worthy matron of Evening Star chapter of the O.E.S. Installation ceremonies
were conducted by Mrs. Phoebe Powys-Lybbe of Calgary, assisted by Robert
Galbraith also of Calgary, and Mrs. Mary Currie of Turner Valley.
Mrs. Christena Grisdale acted as the installing marshal, while Mrs. Jennie
Wilson and Mrs. Patsy Wedderburn acted as chaplain and organist respectively.
MRS. VARTY succeeds Mrs. Jerusha Herr who was presented with her past
matron's jewel. Other officers for 1955 include: worthy patron, C. Ray Barker,
Turner Valley; associate matron, Mrs. Lydia Wedderburn; associate patron, Richard
Powys-Lybbe, Calgary; secretary, Miss Mary Quinn; treasurer, Mrs. Henrietee
Carr; conductress, Mrs. Ima Ardiel; associate conductress, Mrs. Lillias Mulder,
Turner Valley; marshal, Mrs. Jennie Wilson; chaplain, Mrs. Mae Dunn; organist,
Mrs. Patsy Wedderburn; warder, Mrs. Violet Robinson; sentinel, Mrs. Barbara
Moore. The five Star Points will be taken by Mrs. Evt Beattie, Mrs. Alma
Barker, Mrs. Ethel Herrington, Miss Helen McKay and Mrs. Audrey Sutherland.
Among the visitors present were Mrs. Bessie Bloom, past grand matron and
Clarence Cosgrove, past grand patron, both of Calgary. Miss Mary Quinn's
appointment as grand representative of South Dakota was read. The appointment
was received from Mrs. Helen Jacobson, worthy grand matron of South Dakota, and
is for a period of three years. Miss Quinn is a past matron of Evening Star Chapter.
