Mrs. Bert Robinson Again Heads Conservative Women

Mrs. Bert Robinson of Conrich was re-elected president of the Alberta Women's Conservative Association at the annual provincial meeting held at the Palliser Hotel Friday. This will begin her sixth term as leader of the women' s group.
Mr. Carl Nickle, M.P., in addressing the women pointed to the effective work done by Conservative MLAs in Alberta who had provided "real opposition" in the legislature and succeeded in tarnishing the halo built up around Social Credit. When a halo slips too far down it becomes a noose, he reminded them.
THE OPPORTUNITY had now arisen for the Conservative women to help build up a party that would not only be a more effective opposition but pave the way for an eventual Conservative government in Alberta, he said.
Earlier in the day delegates decided that their association's objections to the "lowering of standards of teacher certification and particularly the six-week teacher warded to the government.
Other resolutions considered included one that will ask the federal government that Canadian citizenship be made a condition of the receipt of old age assistance and old age security; that consideration be given to providing financial assistance to British persons emigrating to Canada; that the senate be reformed in keeping with the spirit of the BNA act and an age limit of 75 be set.
PRESIDENT Mrs. Robinson reviewed the work done by the women's group, particularly in the northern section of Alberta. Mrs. H. E. Bedingfield of High River reported for the southern district and reports were also heard from local association heads in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Wetaskiwin which showed an increase in membership and "growing confidence" in the party's prospects.
Mrs. D. R. Radford's treasurer's report showed a balance of $102 on hand; Miss Pansy Pue gave the corresponding secretary's report and Mrs. Fred Parrott the recording secretary's report, reviewing the year's activities.
Other officers on the new executive are: Mrs. William Pettigrew, Edmonton, northern director; Mrs. H. E. Bedingfield, High River, southern director; Miss Pansy Pue, Calgary, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Fred Parrott, Calgary, recording secretary; Mrs. C. R. D. Radford, Edmonton, treasurer.
